Our goal is to provide kids with the opportunity to play sports by assisting with challenges in purchasing equipment and playing. At Gear Share we want to provide children with an equal opportunity to play sports. Some real-life examples of people who came from impoverished backgrounds are Lebron James and Cristiano Ronaldo. They both began their journeys in poor environments, but they were introduced to sports, and they worked hard to get to where they are today. However, there are so many people with unknown potential whose sports careers are hindered by their circumstances and are unable to participate. According to Project Play, some parents shell out an average of $10,000 and more, depending on the sport, annually to pay for lessons, camps, school sports fees, equipment, travel and more. That number alone might be too much for many families. 
 

We love sports and aspects of it and our organization is trying to help others gain the feeling of what sports is truly about. We recognize the opportunities that come with playing sports and want to share with those who aren’t able to experience it. Through sports we have not only 

learned how to be athletes but also how to build relationships, manage our time, problem solve, and work through adversity. We want to share all these things with people whose families can’t afford these opportunities. 
 

Our plan to accomplish our goal is by collecting unused or lightly used sports equipment that people have moved on from or don’t use. We also want to combat the pay to play fees that schools impose on students who want to play. To fix that problem we will also collect donations/host fundraisers with people in the community. In the future we would like to pair with large organizations like clubs, companies, and athletes to spread awareness and also help open up opportunities. In order to fund our plans, we will start by going to local sporting events and gift fairs to spread the word about the problems and raise money. Our goal to kick start the organization is $5000 this would help with advertising and the fight against the pay to play system. 

 

We want to help raise awareness about people who are less fortunate so that people who are able will earn a greater appreciation for what they have in their lives. Through volunteering with us we hope that you gain this awareness and strive to help those around you in your community more.
